Good morning readers, and happy Hump Day!
When I heard that OwlCrate’s theme for June was Royalty, I jumped right on that ish. I waited very
impatiently for my box to arrive, but unfortunately Canada Post was threatening to strike, so my box got caught in the long line of other rushed packages. It ended up coming while I was away. Luckily I managed to avoid spoilers this time around, so I dove into this box with a clear mind as soon as I came back.
Here’s an overview of the June Royalty box:
Super cute, right? Let’s get a closer look at the contents.
After the usual OwlCrate info card, the first thing I saw was the Mystery Mini Funko! There were 16 possibilities – 8 princesses, 8 princess sidekicks – and I ended up getting Cinderella! Not going to lie, I was kind of hoping for Belle, or Gus, but it wasn’t up to me, and I’m happy that I got a Funko, regardless.
Next up was this bracelet, a handmade piece inspired by The Lunar Chronicles from Rich Love Shoppe. I have yet to read TLC, but it’s definitely a series that I’m excited to get to, and this bracelet is really pretty.
The next thing I pulled out was this bold print by Evie Bookish, which was inspired by Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard. I read and enjoyed Red Queen, though I still have to read Glass Sword, so it was cool to finally have some merch pertaining to this series. The print is on such a high quality paper, too! Now I just have to find a place to put it…
Lastly there was the book: My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows. This is a magical rewriting of the story of Lady Jane Grey, which is said to be absolutely hilarious – Tahereh Mafi even blurbed it on the back, saying that it’s “The Tudors meets Monty Python.” Funny story: I actually figured out which book it was in the beginning of June. OwlCrate likes to give hints about their books, and while I was out at Chapters one day I saw this book, read the description, and realized that it matched OwlCrate’s hints! Anyway, this is a really pretty cover, and I can’t wait to read it! It also came with a note from the authors, and a paper crown, which I’ll be posting a picture of on my Instagram.
This box also contained a coupon code for $10 off a handmade bookmark from MyBookmark, which I have yet to use. I’m trying to decide which one to get – there are so many styles to choose from!
There was also a card with the theme of July’s box on it: Good vs. Evil! You can read all about it on OwlCrate’s Instagram, but unfortunately this box has already sold out.
Now I know some of you reading this may have also received this box and are thinking “wait, you’re missing something!”
And I am.
This box was also supposed to come with 3 magnetic bookmarks from CraftedVan: a carriage, a king, and a queen, by the looks of things. My box, however, didn’t contain these items. It’s cool, though, because I emailed OwlCrate’s awesome customer support staff, and they’re sending me the missing bookmarks. I ain’t even mad, because I know that they’ve got a lot of boxes to pack by hand and with the looming Canada Post strike they had to pack faster.
So, with all of this in mind, what are my overall thoughts on this box?
Honestly, while I think this box was pretty neat, I do think I prefer the last box I got from them, which was March’s Writer’s Block box. I feel like I, personally, will get more use out of March’s items than the ones in this box, although I do have yet to get all the bookmarks xD
No matter, this box was still fun and I’m glad I got it!
Did you get June’s OwlCrate? What did you think?
Thanks for reading!
